Clinton campaign to sue Texas Dems over caucuses?

The Texas Democratic Party is warning that the Clinton campaign may sue over the state’s bizarre hybrid primary/caucus:

In a letter sent out late Thursday to both the Clinton and Barack Obama campaigns, Texas Democratic Party lawyer Chad Dunn warned a lawsuit could ruin the Democrats’ effort to re-energize voters just as they are turning out in record numbers.

The letters went to both campaigns, but according to Party officials, the threat only came from one:

“Both campaigns have made it clear that they would go there if they had to, but I think the imminent threat is coming from one campaign,” said one top Democratic official, referring to the Clinton campaign. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity.

I can’t add much to this story that Kos hasn’t already said. I’d be first in line to complain about this messed up system Texas has, which is both a primary and an evening caucus. It’s horrible. But you can’t change the rules in the middle of the game, which seems to be a recurring theme in the Clinton campaign.

Speaking of which, a poll the other day found that only 24% of Florida democrats believe that their state’s primary results should stand and that their delegates should go to Clinton.

  1. I don’t think you should rule out “changing the rules in the middle of the game” if their unjust. Should a disenfranchising system be allowed to continue unobstructed just because it’s only 4 days away?

Also, of course a smaller margin of Florida thinks their votes should matter, because many are Obama supporters, for one, and many who probably didn’t vote and so don’t care either. I think that 24% is actually a pretty large number of all the Florida democrats given those circumstances.
