It has been announced that Chuck Hagel and Jack Reed, two of Barack Obama’s senate colleagues, will join the presidential candidate on the Middle-Eastern leg of his already-announced trip to Europe. Chuck Hagel, who has been a staunch critic of the war and often of President Bush has been considered as a possible running mate for Barack Obama. This announcement adds fuel to the fire. It would be a strange pairing: Hagel is ravenously pro-life and has been one of the most conservative members of the Senate, but it would certainly work in concert with Obama’s desired image as a “new politician” and might logically follow his recent conservative shift.
But let’s hope he doesn’t choose him.
